  • Nature as Medicine: Seashells, Trees, & Gardens to Help Heal Frail Elders | Dr. Joel Cohen
Care for frail elderly needs an injection of Vitamin S - spirituality. Studies have shown that nature can heal. Trees, forests, horizons and oceans can be uplifting and soothing. I propose that hands-on interaction with seashells and plants can boost spirits and enhance well-being and meaning in the lives of frail elders. It is time for less medication and a walk on the spiritual side.
Increasingly the demand for resource: intellectual, capital, expertise, capacity, leadership – threatens to overwhelm the current depth of our organizations. More organizations are looking to join together in formal partnership structures to assure adequate resource for today’s demands and more importantly, future demands. This session will explore key considerations an organization MUST determine prior to considering this type of strategic initiative. It will also look at how to determine the “control factor” of your organization and whether or not it can be modified adequately to enable an effective partnership model. There are numerous examples of formal partnerships which have been highly successful but just as many which have not. Several case studies will be presented to illustrate the opportunities and challenges being “in a relationship” can provide. This session will facilitate active discussion around using the partnership model to achieve our overall strategic plans.
This session will provide an overview of lawsuits surrounding the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities and the outcomes of those cases. The outcomes of these lawsuits have an impact on the policies, procedures and operations of senior living communities. This session will help participants understand the regulatory framework and how to comply with the law and regulatory agencies.
