8 - PREPARING FOR TRAUMA INFORMED CARE IN POST-ACUTE AND LONG TERM CARE SETTINGS

Speaker: Paige Hector, LMSW, Clinical Educator, Paige Ahead Healthcare Education & Consulting, LLC

Regulatory changes in November 2019 require long term care facilities to become trauma-informed, yet specific guidance has been minimal. Literature on trauma informed care is extensive, and possibly overwhelming. At the same time, misconceptions exist about the definition of trauma and what it means to be a trauma-informed care organization. Few providers are aware of or prepared for what this means for their staff and residents, and facility processes. This session will initiate a journey for learners on the path to incorporating trauma-informed principles and practices into the facility culture.

9 - HOW TO INTEGRATE TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS AS A RESPONSE TO INDUSTRY TRENDS

Speakers: Daren Bell, Senior Vice President, Ziegler | Scott Collins, President & CEO, Link-age

Few can deny that the level of business complexity for senior living sponsors and operators has increased dramatically across the past decade. It appears that the pace of change has elevated and there are numerous catalysts and disruptors that are shaping the sector as a whole. The Baby Boomer cohort is bringing forth a much different set of expectations and preferences than previous generations of residents and the “Gen X” and “Gen Y” generations are influencing decisions regarding these new expectations. We know that with roughly 80% of Baby Boomers report frequent use of the internet, there is more information at the consumer’s fingertips than before. This also presents great opportunity to maximize data analytics to target a prospective customer base. The Boomers are also showing greater acceptance of technology, not only in their daily living (wearables; Amazon Alexa), but in meeting their health and wellness needs as well (remote monitoring; telehealth solutions). Consumer-directed technologies continue to grow.
